Michigan’s Adult Foster Care (AFC) providers are being asked to do more than ever for residents with complex medical needs. Recognizing that gap, Direct Care Training & Resource Center, Inc. (DCTRC) developed Course 1143: How to Develop and Manage Group Living Programs for the Medically Fragile, a 4-CEU training built specifically for administrators, nurses, and direct care staff working in specialized Michigan group homes.
This course was developed to help providers meet the November 2025 Consolidated AFC Administrative Rules (R 400.601–R 400.745) with real, usable guidance — not guesswork. Across four chapters, learners work through how medical fragility is defined, the neurological, respiratory, cardiopulmonary, and mobility-related conditions most common in group living settings (including care for residents with brittle bones), and how to build genuine clinical competence through staff development and collaboration with medical professionals.

For homes serving residents with ventilator support, tracheostomy or G-tube care, seizure management, or other high-acuity needs, this training gives staff a framework for staffing, monitoring, and escalation that protects both resident safety and program compliance.
The course is 100% online and self-paced, with a downloadable certificate upon completion.
